September - Harvest

It's that time of year again!  Time to harvest all those garden items that you've been working so hard to cultivate over the summer.  It also marks the one year anniversary of me doing this website, so make sure you check out the archive page (link located at the bottom of the page) to make sure you haven't missed anything.

Due to the fact that I lacked a decent yard to have a garden, I usually just grew herbs (ie: green onions, thyme, basil, cilantro, etc).  However, I am on a food co-op with some co-workers.  I was recently given some summer squash, heirloom tomatoes, green beans and a zucchini.  Of course I was thinking, what am I going to do with this?

My first thought about the tomatoes was fresh, home made salsa!  After all, I have the cilantro and green onions!

Then, I was thinking about how many summer squash people usually get and how they just want to get rid of them!  However, I have a great recipe you can make called summer squash soup with basil that will make you want to keep all the summer squash to yourself.  How convenient that I already have basil!

Green beans are great in salads, steamed with almond slivers or even stir-fry, but have you ever had them deep fried?  Oh yes, another way to enjoy your veggies!  This recipe is a favorite of mine from Paula Deen.  And its something else I can do with those green onions of mine!

What could I do with the zucchini that involves thyme?  Why not just roast the two together and make roasted zucchini with thyme?

So now you've got some great recipes!  Why host a dinner party and try some of these recipes.
